The human perspective
It was a spectacular stay at The Savoy. What stood out most was how much the hotel feels like part of London itself, rather than simply a luxury property located in London. The public spaces are grand without feeling impersonal, and the location on the Strand makes it extremely easy to walk to Covent Garden, the West End, Trafalgar Square, the Thames, and many of central London’s best-known sights.
The attention to detail was excellent, and the staff were consistently on point. Room service was readily available whenever we needed it, which added to the feeling of being very well looked after.
In my experience, The Savoy makes the most sense for travelers who want a classic London luxury experience and value location, service, and local history. If you prefer something more modern, that is completely valid—but it wouldn’t really be The Savoy.
What stands out about this hotel
The Savoy is best suited to travelers who want a classic London luxury hotel with real history, destination dining, and a central Strand location rather than a quieter or more contemporary stay. Opened in 1889, it sits close to Covent Garden and Trafalgar Square while overlooking the Thames, and many rooms and suites offer river or city views. With a pool, spa, 24-hour gym, multiple restaurants and bars, afternoon tea, and a 9.4/10 Booking.com rating from 1,447 reviews, its strongest appeal is the combination of landmark atmosphere, location, and full-service luxury.

The Savoy
The Savoy is one of London’s best-known historic luxury hotels, occupying a landmark position on the Strand between Covent Garden and the River Thames. Opened in 1889, the hotel combines grand Edwardian character with a central location that works especially well for travelers planning to explore the West End, Trafalgar Square, Covent Garden, and the river on foot. Many rooms and suites offer views toward the Thames or the London skyline, while the hotel’s public spaces retain the sense of occasion that has long defined the Savoy name. The experience extends well beyond the guest rooms. The Savoy offers a swimming pool, spa and wellness facilities, a 24-hour gym, room service, and several established restaurants and bars, including the American Bar and Savoy Grill. Afternoon tea is also a major part of the hotel experience. For travelers choosing between London’s luxury hotels, The Savoy is strongest when history, service, dining, and a highly central location matter as much as the room itself. Rooms: Compare the room category and view carefully. The Savoy lists a Superior Queen Room at about 27 square meters and a Deluxe King at about 31, with city or courtyard outlooks. River-view suites offer more space and a Thames outlook; a river view is not included in every room. Confirm connecting-room arrangements directly. Nearby attractions: The Strand location puts Covent Garden, West End theaters and Trafalgar Square within a short walk. The Thames and Victoria Embankment are nearby for riverside exploration. Who should book The Savoy?
The Savoy is a strong fit for travelers who want their hotel to be part of the London experience rather than simply a place to sleep. It also works particularly well for travelers planning to spend time around Covent Garden, the West End, Trafalgar Square, and the river, as well as guests who value having several serious dining and drinking options inside the hotel itself.

Things to know
The Savoy is a premium, experience-led hotel, so part of what you are paying for is the name, history, atmosphere, and on-site dining rather than simply room size. Not every room has a Thames view, so travelers who care about the outlook should choose their room category carefully. If you prefer a quieter boutique hotel, minimalist contemporary design, or the strongest value per night, another London luxury property may suit you better.
