Best Hotels in Cusco, Peru: Where to Stay
The right Cusco hotel depends less on a single “best” property and more on what you value: historic atmosphere, easy access to the old center, San Blas character, full-service wellness, or a practical base for early tours. This guide narrows Hotelanda’s Cusco inventory into clear traveler types, then lets you compare every published profile.
Start with location
Where should you stay in Cusco?
Historic Center
Best starting point for first-time visitors and travelers who want to spend most of their time around central Cusco. It also has the broadest mix of Hotelanda profiles, from heritage luxury to practical four-star stays. Central does not always mean quiet, so compare the exact map position and hotel tradeoffs.
San Blas
Best fit for travelers who prioritize neighborhood character, smaller hotels and the artistic side of central Cusco. The important tradeoff is terrain: San Blas is hillier, and inclines or steps can matter after long sightseeing days or for travelers with mobility concerns.
Santa Ana and San Cristóbal
Worth comparing when you like a specific hotel’s amenities or want a position just outside the busiest central streets. These areas can involve steeper approaches, so the individual hotel map is more useful than the neighborhood label alone.
Wanchaq and Avenida El Sol
Useful for travelers who value transport logistics, airport access or a practical city base. Properties here can still be close to central Cusco, but the experience is generally less about stepping directly into the old-center lanes and more about convenience.

Quick answers
Cusco hotel questions travelers usually ask
What is the best area to stay in Cusco?
For most first-time visitors, the Historic Center is the simplest starting point because it puts a large concentration of hotels, restaurants and major sights in the same general area. San Blas is a strong alternative for atmosphere, while Santa Ana, San Cristóbal and Wanchaq make more sense when a particular property or transport need matters more than being in the center.
Is it better to stay in the Historic Center or San Blas?
Choose the Historic Center if convenience and easy access to central sightseeing are the priority. Choose San Blas if you value neighborhood character and boutique-style stays and are comfortable with hillier streets. The best choice can change if mobility, altitude or steep walking is a concern.
How many nights should you stay in Cusco?
For many Peru itineraries, two to three nights in Cusco city is a practical starting point. Add more if you want slower sightseeing, extra acclimatization time, or several day trips from the city. If your itinerary moves quickly into the Sacred Valley, you may prefer to split the nights rather than base everything in Cusco.
Should you stay in Cusco or the Sacred Valley first?
Let the itinerary decide. If your first activities are in central Cusco, staying in the city reduces backtracking. If you are heading directly toward Sacred Valley sites or onward toward Machu Picchu, beginning in the valley can make the route more efficient. Many travelers ultimately use both.
How much do hotels in Cusco cost?
There is no single useful citywide number because Cusco ranges from simple three-star hotels to historic luxury properties. Hotelanda currently publishes recently checked price examples on selected profiles, and the gap between value-oriented and luxury options can be several hundred dollars per night.
Is paying for a luxury hotel in Cusco worth it?
It can be if the hotel experience is part of the trip. Properties such as Monasterio and Palacio del Inka sell more than a bed: historic architecture, central locations, spas, dining and atmosphere are part of the value. If you expect to spend nearly all day touring, a practical central four-star hotel may deliver better value.

If your itinerary also includes the Sacred Valley or Machu Picchu, compare those locations separately rather than assuming every night should be based in Cusco.
How this guide works
Hotelanda’s selection, rating and price method
This destination page combines Hotelanda’s published hotel records with editorial comparison. The featured hotels are selected to represent materially different traveler needs, locations and amenity profiles; they are not a numerical ranking.
- Ratings: every rating is shown with its recorded source. Booking.com, Google and other sources use different review pools, so ratings should not be treated as perfectly interchangeable.
- Prices: price ranges appear only when Hotelanda has checked comparable upcoming rates and saved the source, date and booking basis on the hotel profile. They are examples, not guarantees or a citywide average.
- Editorial fit: “best for,” advantages and tradeoffs are decision guidance based on location, amenities, hotel positioning and available profile data.
- Human reviews: genuine firsthand observations are kept separate and labeled on the relevant hotel profile. Hotelanda does not invent stays or visits.
- Live profile data: ratings, review counts, star class, hotel type and verified prices on this page are refreshed from the underlying WordPress hotel records when available.
- Affiliate disclosure: Hotelanda may earn a commission if you book through a partner link on a hotel profile, at no extra cost to you.
